Dallas Trip
My boss and I flew to Dallas yesterday to give a presentation to the group I interned with last year. How unsatisfying to arrive tired, talk about work for 3 hrs, then run away again to catch a plane! Hardly any time to say more than hello to friends. Dallas is close enough for a weekend visit, but I'm trying to focus on school more lately and limit social time so that I can get something that rhymes with bob for once in my life. (a real bob, not a binternship or a student bob with a bipend). The work part of the trip went well though (which of course is the point).
The only glitch in the trip in the trip was that our rental car was a clown car. I mean, you couldn't even see it. We only found it by tripping over it in the parking lot. The Budget lady warned us though. "All we have left are Pontiac Vibe. They're really small." "It's ok," I told her, "I'd prefer a small car." "Well, hm, I'm sorry, it's pretty small," she insisted. "I drive an Escort," I told her, "I'm used to a small car. I'd prefer one. The smaller the better." "Well," she responded, "let me know if there's a problem. We will find a way to exchange it if it's too small for you."
Dumbfounded, we (two normal size people) walk with our only luggage - a laptop bag - towards the lot. Um..
Since when is this a small car??? How are we going to fit the 10 orphans and 13 immigrants we planned to pick up on our day trip? And we'll need more room for ourselves after we gain 2 tons during the trip and our fat spills over into the back seat, trickling into the trunk. Obviously we needed the hummer.
